Beautiful Weather

I am so happy the weather has turned for the better.  Saturday was such a beautiful day!  I decided to take Alex to the zoo and her little friend, Castlin, and her mom Jennifer joined us.  We visited the gorilla's again and watched a little training session the zookeepers did with them.  Alex got to see them brush one of the gorilla's teeth, file their nails, and she also saw them give one of them the flu shot.  Pretty exciting stuff!  The Atlanta Zoo has the largest number of gorilla's in any zoo in the world.  We also stopped over to see if the new baby panda was awake.  Unfortunately, the little bear won't be out for the public to see until the end of March!

Today is another beautiful day!  Our car reading said it was 67 degrees.  I wish it could stay like this forever, but I know in a few months it will be dreadfully hot!

Busy Little Alex

Last week, Alex's school had parent teacher conferences. Alex's teacher told me she was a very shy and quiet little girl. Alex has always been very shy and quiet (when I am not around) but she is sure happy. She loves to play with her friends and loves her family. A common theme to her artwork at school is pictures of mommy, daddy, Alex, and fluffy. I decided that I should try and get Alex more involved in activities to help her break out of her shell.

Yesterday she had her tap/ballet class right after preschool. The church where she goes to preschool has a few gyms, workout room, and more. So yesterday they picked her up from class to go right to ballet/tap dance and then I picked her up from ballet. I showed up about 15 minutes early to peek in and watch through the door. I could tell she was really into it and trying her hardest to do a good job. She is now telling me she wants to be a Paleontologist and a Ballerina. She will have a dance recital on May 14th. I may be a little biased, but I have a feeling she is going to be the best dancer!

Today, after school she tried out the Karate class. I showed up again 15 minutes early to see how she was doing. The teachers we're really good with her but I think Alex thought it was a little boring. She wants to keep going back though so I might try it out for the next month to see how that goes.

Tonight, I decided to send her to kids choir at church because she has a few friends that are in the same choir. They had tryouts tonight for a play that is going to be held on Saturday April 30th. Usually the small children don't have speaking rolls in the plays, but Alex still raised her hand and went up in front of the class to "tryout". Ok, so really the kids didn't know they were "trying out" for the play, they just thought they were playing a game. All the way home, Alex talked about the play and what part she wanted to play. She is so cute!

OB/GYN Rotation

Keith is now on his second week of OB/GYN. He is really liking it so far. He spends one 24 hour shift a week at the hospital and in February he will spend a 48 hour week. The preceptor (the doctor he is working with) is great and lets him do everything. Today he did a few pelvic exams and pap smears. He will hopefully deliver some babies soon. I asked Keith if he would be interested in being an OB/GYN doctor and he said he isn't sure because they are on call so much and work a ton of hours. He does find it extremely interesting though.

Here is Alex watching a little video on Keith's computer before bedtime. She starts her ballet/tap dance class tomorrow after preschool. I wish I could stay and watch but they discourage it and invite the parents to come to the dance recital in May. I may still have to go in a few minutes early to see how she is doing!

Bowling with friends

Yesterday we met some friends for some bowling fun at Brunswick Zone in Norcross, GA.  There were a bit too many bowlers and with the speed these girls we're throwing their bowling balls we took about two hours to play one game.  After about two frames Alex was already wanted to have her friends come over and play.  So I pretended to put fairy dust on the bowling balls to give them good luck and they started to have fun and the time went by much faster.  Click the picture above to view more pictures.

Pigtails

Yesterday, Sunday, Alex and I decided to stay in all day and play. We both wore pigtails and stayed in our pajamas. Alex loved that I put my hair in pigtails. It was so cute to see her so excited about it!

Alex misses her Grandpa and Nanna and cousin, Zoe

Today we worked on a little princess book that came with a toy that Grandpa and Nanna sent Alex. Every time the book had her fill in the names of her friends she put down Zoe and Grandpa and Nanna. She is such a sweetie and misses them so much. She asks all the time about going to see them.

This past friday marked the end of Keith's Internal Medicine rotation and he starts his OB/GYN tomorrow. I have a feeling he is really going to like OB/GYN.

A whole week off of school

Alex has had this whole week off of school. Not because of winter break but because of a bad snow storm here in Atlanta. She will have Monday off too, for Martin Luther King's Birthday. We've been trying to keep busy with reading books, playing with friends, and doing art projects. Here is a picture of a couple planes we made using toilet paper rolls. Alex decorated them and then glued a piece of paper onto them for the wings. Today we are painting and coloring. Tomorrow she has a bunch of friends coming over to play. She is so excited!

I should of listened

Before the snow storm hit us in Atlanta friends told me to go to the grocery store and stock up.  I should of listened!  Because last night I went to the store and it was sold out of everything.  So I went to another grocery store up the street and it was closed.  I decided to try wal-mart, and that was closed!  I can understand why they would be closed with public transportation out of commission for the last three days.  The workers have no way to get to work.  Today I decided to try again, thinking maybe a shipment came in.  Guess not.  But I did take a few pictures.  I've never seen anything like this before!  At least we have pasta and rice and beans.  :)

Kara's Birthday Party

This past weekend Alex went to her friend, Kara's, fifth birthday party. It was at a gymnastics place and all the kids got to jump on the trampoline and walk on the balance beam. The kids just loved it, and so did Alex. Here she is eating a cupcake. She only ate the frosting and left the rest of the cupcake for me to eat.

Freeze Warning!

Being from Minnesota you would think I have seen a sign like this before. But I haven't! The homes here really are not the best insulated! Most of the time I am at home I am wearing my jacket! It is cold! At least in Minnesota you have warmth inside your home.

New Year's Eve in Atlanta

Alex had a fun filled day on New Year's Eve. We started out by going to this place called Jeronimo where they had a "Happy Noon Year" Party.  She met some of her friends from preschool there and had a great time!

Today Alex and I met up with some friends at the Centennial Olympic Park.  We went ice skating and the kids played at the playground.  Click below for pictures:
